Social Stigma for Male Dancers

Why is there so much stigma around men taking on indian classical dancing as a hobby/career? Many are disuaded from learning Kathak, Bharatnatyam, and others. A similar stigma can be visible in other classical dances around the world such ballet. Why do you think such mindset exists? Is it because the society thinks that classicals aren't masculine enough, or is it simply not popular with the masses?submitted by /u/ManicSid

Long story short - I have resolved a life-long chronic pain that had plagued me since childhood. Throughout my academic life, I have always been deeply interested in philosophy and theology, so I grew up reading a lot of religious texts and was always fascinated by the act of worship through movement.
I have in the last two years become transfixed in the idea of picking up Bharatanatyam or Kathak, preferably the former. However, I am a 31 year old man who would prefer not to appear like a creep in random classes with other kids so have decided to take online (on-demand video) lessons. It seems there are more resources on Kathak than Bharatanatyam.
Do you think I'm going down the right track? Any advice or feedback welcome. Thank you.submitted by /u/SerafinaLorelei
